Evernote on acid

There’s a new online utility out called Evernote. It allows you to get rid of all those scraps of paper stuck into your wallet (or purse for the ladies) with handwritten or other notes on them. Just use your cameraphone, take a photo of your note and send it to your Evernote account. The image is not only kept in your private account, but it actually has character recognition to convert your writing or text in the note to searchable text. Very cool stuff. I’ve done some tests and when the writing is clear enough the search does work.

There’s also a desktop client for Evernote and I tried that and saw that there was an iSight note button so you can probably jot a live note to yourself. Well I clicked the button and the graphics went wacko. I mean really wacko. Check the screenshots below, the 2nd screenshot was when I moved the mouse around and the block graphics changed. Eventually I couldn’t read the computer screen and had to reboot. I guess that’s why it’s in beta.

But Evernote still looks like a cool app. If you want to give it a try just shoot me an email as I have some invites available to give out for free accounts.

*UPDATE* They have a new desktop client and the iSight Note feature now works fine.
