Tsunami Surge

The earthquake in Japan sent an ocean surge headed our way and although it took a few hours to get here it was quite a sight to see Kamakahonu Bay being filled and emptied as the ocean surge came in and out. The channel looked like a swift river as water either went in or out. And beachboy Trent Palacat can maybe claim fame to having surfed a tsunami?

I wasn’t there for the initial surges which were quite high, maybe four feet or so but the ones I saw when I got there were maybe three feet or so in height difference. It was like a mini version of the tsunami videos I’ve seen where the ocean just gets higher.

Something about the 15th of the month, my days off and earthquakes…

I always love to check your blog, and I don’t feel so far from Hawaii. Glad it was only a small tsunami…

Awesome photo and video. I wish I knew what that was happening, it would have been cool to go down and watch it.
