Yeah, I stayed away from the crazy zone of fireworks lovers on the Big Island. I used to work in Kaneohe and Kailua so ran the gauntlet of fireworks many times driving around the Windward side.
I still wonder how folks get their bags and things through airport security what with all that firecracker residue on hands, clothing, etc.

Your right…I guess I was lucky that they didnt swab my bags when I flew back. Altho perhaps they expect some residue during new years and let small amounts slide?
