Cilla leaves her Kona crib

Priscilla offers up some crusty bread with roasted garlic at the Kona Brew Pub, did I mention that we weren't dieting for the walking competition anymore? She's splitting for the mainland after working at the paper and being our captain leading our team to our 2nd place finish.

Melanie and Cilla get a farewell photo together. We got gift certificates from WHT for our 2nd place walking contest finish so we decided why not use 'em at KBP. We're gonna miss Cilla, maybe we can get her back next year for the competition? They did let us walk/run anywhere so she could do her miles on the mainland. hmmmmm

A parting for an apartment

One last glance at my old apartment before I grab one last bag of trash and lock it up for good. The new tenant will be happy to move in a couple days early. I'm glad to be out but what a mess at the new place before I store things.

Shaka from the gold medalist

Ken, from the WHT Walkie-Talkies walking/running team flashes a shaka just before awards ceremony where they took top honors for completing the most miles of all the teams involved. Curses! We came in second place, this is the third year I've been on the 2nd place team, with our team the WHT 6rs. You can see more photos of the teams at the Friends For Fitness website.

Priscilla and I can't wait to dig into the Maui Caramacs as we accept our prizes with Lana.

Not bad. The West Hawaii Today teams took 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 7th places overall. Which means we get to put on the feedbag! The bossman said if all four teams place in the top 8 places he would treat us to lunch.

Here's our certificate. We took 3rd place for body fat loss which isn't bad at all. Our team did 855.2 miles during the competition.

2nd Day Sale

The second day of the moving sale, very serene, too much so, we want stuff to be flying out of the place! Actually a little later a dude, friend of James. showed-up and was a chatterbox. Lucky for Bri and myself he was a somewhat interesting chatterbox which kept us entertained and the more he talked the more stuff he bought. So I think we encouraged him to keep chatting. I had to leave for work but she just about sold all of my stuff, just a few items left which will either go to Salvation Army or to friends.

Garage Sale - Part Deux

Bri must have sold about 75-80% of the items at the garage sale. Not bad for the first day. I sold much of my stuff too and went home later to bring by more stuff. It feels cleansing.

Early Birds

Simmy made a beeline for my Freebies box of stuff. She scored.

The McMichael tribe got an early start on the day by hitting our garage sale first. They dove into my freebies box and scored a couple of lei so they could play tourists. They came back later with Mike showing-off some other goodies they got at other sales.

Half a lifetime ago

I was clearing out some of my storage unit today of a bunch of old photos and negs and came across this photo, yes a real print, not digital. It's Maile when she was 13 years-old in intermediate school talking about some trip to Florida.

As many photographers can attest we can remember many of the assignments clearly that we've shot, even though it was long ago or seemingly routine. Sometimes we can't remember a darn thing from an assignment that should have stuck in our memories.

I remember shooting this photo. Maile was a maelstrom, arms flying about, dominating the conversation beyond her helpless classmates as you can see that they are at a loss. So I remember it well which surprises her. But that was a half a lifetime away for her, she's double that age now. It's a fraction for me so memories are clearer, score one for being older.

You can read about what she has to say and see the back of the photo, which she said has the wrong name for her classmate on the right via her own blog at MonkeyPrints.

Whenever I see her she's a 13 year-old kid in my mind. Some photos and assignments just stick.

If you've upgraded to Mac OSX 10.4.5 and use Safari to post via Blogger.com then you'll notice a problem with the time/date controls being gone. To make the control reappear hit the Preview button then hit Hide Preview to go back to the editing view, the time/date controls will magically appear.

Mac OSX trojan horse/virus alert

Ladies and gentlemen it was bound to happen but there's some malware out there that's not quite a virus as it can't spread on it's own but more a trojan horse. Presenting Oompa-Loompa

You actually have to do quite a bit to activate it and only a real geek-head would go through the process. But then again if you're a geek-head you'll probably have read about it by now.

Lulu’s belated birthday brew

Brendan and James involved in some conversation about scooters or cannibalism I kind of lost track. We were wondering what is considered cannibalism? Sure, if you’re hungry and a frozen soccer team is handy, that would probably count. But what if you amputated your leg and ate it? What about placenta? Good thing we didn’t order any food.

The other side of the table probably trying to not hear the conversation. Bri, Travis and Brendan’s dad who’s visiting.

No photo of Mike up there, yes he was there but probably split before my photos as to not construe his endorsement of the place.

McFeng Shui

The drive thru at McD’s in Kona, the whole site recently got done with a major overhaul, new building up (not like Kona's Burger King which had it's building gutted and now in the process of re-gutting). They've got this sign up saying 'Fusion' like it's some kind of new age Pacific Rim cuisine. Give me a break, it's a round waffle thingy with syrup crystals in it surrounding McMuffin parts. btw, I didn't order one of these things, though I have in the past so I speak from experience on the syrup crystals.

Does this Fusion make my ass look fat? Must be because if you eat those things every day your okole will achieve critical mass. A fusion reaction on it’s own, though it might produce methane instead of noble gasses.

And you drive a little further in the drive-thru and you come across this idyllic scene behind McD's. Palms, a tiered waterfall, greenery. Hey, I just want the driver in the front to be getting their correct change together instead of relaxing at this scene and fumbling forever at the 'first window.' Seems like the perfect spot for a coqui frog or two.

Triple Birthday Pig Out

Pigged Out tonight at Teshima's Restaurant. The Beef Teriyaki and Shrimp Tempura combo plate with all the fixins of miso soup, rice, etc. Finished it off with green tea ice cream.

It was a triple birthday dinner for Melinda, her mom and me as we all have our birthdays within about a week of each other. Here she is with her mom as I wonder why I forgot my camera but lucky for me my cellphone has a camera. A cute pair.

Me and Melinda via the cellphone camera. It seems like I'm surrounded by Aquarians this year, in the past it was always Leos. Is it the age of Aquarius?

Don’t smoke

The warning labels on cigarette packs overseas with a nice graphic photo of some dude hooked up to a respirator. How's that for a warning? But folks still smoke.
