Boudin Cafe at SFO

Boudin Cafe at SFO

Okay, so I didn’t get to Fisherman’s Wharf but they did have a Boudin Cafe at SFO where I could buy a loaf of bread for the trip and a bowl of chowder.

Chowder in Boudin sourdough bread bowl. No Anchor Steamer, this was breakfast.

GPS and Lake Mead

GPS and Lake Mead

Heading towards Lake Mead and the Nevada-Arizona border. I bought that GPS for the trip and it worked well. It didn’t lead me to any cliffs at night or leave me stranded in the desert.

Dam bypass

Dam bypass

Sometime in the future the bypass to drive over instead of on top of Hoover Dam will be completed and America will be safe. When driving on the dam you have to go through Homeland Security checkpoints to make sure you aren’t going to, you know, blow up the dam or some crazy terrorist thing. I’ve seen the movie The Dam Busters when I was a kid on late night TV and let me tell you I doubt my little rented Ford Focus would even chip away anything important from Hoover Dam. Most likely it would just be a stain on that solid, though they keep saying it’s still drying, piece of concrete.

Arizona Highways

Arizona Highways

Blue skies, open road and a few hundred miles to get to Flagstaff. A long drive but pretty easy to get there. Note to self next time, stop at In-N-Out Burger in Kingman or Rosies on the Arizona side of the border. When I drove into Kingman I got some gas, bought a Powerbar and started eating that, then drove past the burger joint and wish I had known and eaten there.

Standing O

Abbie

And when I go to Flagstaff I got a standing ovation from Abbie!

Tea Time

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Check it out on the right, I’m selling my own signature tea. Kohala Coast Sunset tea. I got a tin and although it has apricot and mango in the tea isn’t too fruity. I’ve found that once brewed this tea is excellent poured over ice for a refreshing iced-tea. This is good stuff. I’ll have to add a few photo of the tea myself.

Actually I’m not ‘really’ selling this tea, Adagio is doing the selling, I just get credits for tins bought.

My signature tea

Here’s what the container looks like for my tea, a really nice airtight container with a UV blocking clear lid.

Kohala Coast Sunset Tea Blend

The tea is a blend of Apricot Green Tea, Mango Green Tea and Vanilla Oolong Tea.

Here’s the ad to order the tea, but if you want to order email me first and I think I can send a $5 off certificate for orders.

Hosts Sabine and Sven on the far end as Sven takes a photo during a pre-Christmas dinner.

Ice Cream Bananas

Ice cream bananas for dessert, lots of good stuff for dinner before this but we were too busy eating and talking for photos.

Champagne in JD glass

We kinda ran out of proper glasses but Champagne in a Jack Daniels glass will do for me.

Toast

Some toasting going on.

German Chocolates

German chocolates also joned the Champagne.

Dining by lantern light

Dining by lantern light. Lots of Champagne bottles on the table.

Glennon pops and pours yet another bottle.

Pre-Feast Feast

Thanksgiving Day lunch

This was lunch, now what’s for dinner?

*update* Chowed down on prime rib, seafood, shortribs, a plate of assorted desserts for dinner with friends. I’m full but I’ll miss the turkey leftovers but not the clean-up.

And for the new banner picture at top. The snow-capped Mauna Kea summit. Will probably get more snow as we enter winter but nice sight to see now.

Aldene, Baron, Wendy, Buzzy, Teresa

Classmates visited the Big Island for the weekend and go to hang at Buzzy’s place. Aldene, me, Wendy, Buzzy and Teresa.

Buzzy

Buzzy ready to party, or is he reaching for a piece to snuff me out?

Hawaiian Grinds

And so we headed off to a party filled with hula dancers and musicians for food, music and dance. Lots of dance. Notice the ono Hawaiian grinds at the party.

Hula

And there was lots of impromptu dancing.

All parties should be like this. Good friends, good food, good music, good dancing and lots of good fun. Video to come later.

Deep Fried Menu

Why is this man smiling? He probably owns Medtronic stock and is rich over the pacemakers, insulin pumps and cardiac medical products they sell. This is the deep fried food menu at Mermaids and he’s the guy dishing up the greasy grinds.

Deep Fried Twinkie

The infamous Deep Fried Twinkie. Battered, deep fried, sprinkled with powdered sugar and chocolate pieces. I thought it might be a little healthier than the deep fried Oreos or at least easier to eat as I wouldn’t know how to pull a fried Oreo apart to eat the insides before eating the cookie parts.
