Spent part of the morning at the Ala Wai Golf Course driving range with my dad. He had me starting-off with a 9-iron and I was hitting the ball, lofting it up and hitting it about 50 yards. Then he started coaching me on hand and body position, etc. Now I was hitting the ball into the ground, off to the side, etc. Hmmmm.
After relaxing a bit I was starting to hit the ball straight ahead again lofting the ball up. My dad said, "the 9-iron is the easiest club to hit with." It must be true because I wasn't doing too bad. Okay, I did miss the ball completely a couple of times.
Next we switched to the driver with a 10.5ยบ loft. I was hitting a bunch of line drives, into the ground, etc. It was more like I was hitting a sacrifice bunt rather than a driver. I did get the sweet spot on a few balls but this was a very small percentage.
So much to remember, keep my hands in front of the ball when setting-up, keep the left arm straight, hands together, smooth stroke, etc. Okay, enough bad drives down the driving range next was the putting green.
On the putting green i did much better. Able to sink the ball in the hole from either close, medium and farther distances. I just needed to judge the amount of force to hit with. All in all not too bad of a day at the driving range.
And as for the golf shoes, my dad hit a few balls wearing slippers. He hit the ball long and straight but couldn't see where the ball went once it flew past 50 yards. His eyesight isn't as good as it used to be.
