Foodie time!

Ah yes, a visit to the wonderful Makuu Farmers Market in Puna where you can find things to eat, drink, see, buy, listen to and inhale (yeah, I’m talking about essential oils, incense, and other such legal things…they did have a CBD booth too). Parking is $2 and I think they close at 2 p.m. so that should be easy to remember.

Since Ryan Ozawa is encouraging local Hawaii bloggers to get blogging again I figured I had better post something, anything! I encourage folks to blog rather than using big blue (FB) as you don’t give up rights to your work, things are easier to search for, and you can shine independently.

Another flight to go with the flow

Took a flight via Paradise Helicopters over the Kilauea June 27th Lava Flow. GPS tracking of the flight path. Videos shot below.

Come fly with me, let’s fly let’s fly away

Went up with Paradise Helicopters on a flight over the Kilauea June 27th Lava Flow, up to Pu‘u ‘O‘o Crater and over lower Puna subdivisions on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.

Taking photos from a helicopter is the way to go but is always challenging. Make sure you wear black or very dark clothes as reflections on the windows will ruin your images/video or if possible shoot through an open port or better yet have them take the doors off the helicopter.

Don’t let your lens touch any helicopter surface like the window. The vibration from the helo will ruin your photos and it’s rude to scratch the crap out of the windows with your lens. Try to use your arms as shock absorbers, watch those horizon lines as any aircraft will bank and throw the tilt out of whack. You have to constantly adjust camera position.

Wear long pants, sometimes it’s required. And above all have fun. Great flight with Calvin Dorn, CEO of Paradise Helicopters.

According to the USGS/HVO the spot where I shot this from will be flowed-over in the coming weeks should the lava continue. Photography by Baron Sekiya | Hawaii 24/7
